May is National Water Safety Month, designed to bring awareness to steps everyone can take to ensure safe fun in the water this season. We encourage you to discuss pool and water safety with friends and family this summer. Whether you are enjoying your community pool or the pool in your backyard, pool fun can also be safe fun! Here are just a few tips to share:
• Teach children water safety and swimming skills as early as possible.
• Always brief babysitters on water safety, emphasizing the need for constant supervision.
• Appoint a “designated watcher” to monitor children during social gatherings at or near pools.
• Equip doors and windows that exit to a pool area with alarms.
• Post CPR instructions and learn the procedures.
