The different ways you can remodel a pool

There’s no mistaking that your inground pool is – or at least should be – the main attraction of your outdoor space. However, as pools age, they can lose their sparkle and degrade the appearance of the rest of your backyard oasis.

If your pool looks a little worn or outdated, it may be time for a pool remodel. There are many different remodeling options these days, so there’s no need to tear out your existing structure and build a brand new one. Instead, you can save money and time with some of the following options and enjoy an upgraded swimming pool that brings some serious wow factor.

Resurfacing

The average lifespan of a pool’s interior finish is 20 years. If you notice things in the interior finish of your pool such as chips and cracks, or areas of discoloration in the surface then it’s almost certainly time for a new interior. Pool finishes get pitted and scarred over time due to normal chemical wear and tear and aging. This kind of pitting and spot etching means that you may use more chemicals to maintain proper water quality. It also can result in water loss.

Once you have made the decision to start a pool resurfacing project, you will choose between a quartz and a pebble finish. We can help walk you through these options to make the best decision based on your desired outcome, as well as your budget.

Change the water color

While we are on the topic of pool resurfacing, installing a new pool interior is the perfect opportunity for you to switch things up and get that water color you’ve always dreamed about. Whether you are looking for a crisp icy blue, bright turquoise, or a deep-dark black aesthetic, the material and color you choose for your new interior will help give you the effect you are looking for.

Upgrade the tiles

Still have that 80s-style light blue or red brick pool waterline tile? Maybe it’s time you do your pool a favor and install a new waterline tile. Today there are many options for upgrading your waterline tile.

From porcelain to stone-like, to glass tile, to mosaics, retiling is an excellent opportunity to upgrade your pool’s aesthetics and give it that “WOW” factor. There are some incredibly beautiful options available right now, including products from National Pool Tile and the “Monet Sunrise” glass 1”x2” from the Aquabella Monet Series used in the picture here.

Upgrade your pool equipment

If your pool was built more than 10 years ago, chances are the equipment could stand to be replaced. Industry standards and efficiency for pool equipment have improved drastically over the years.

Upgrading to a new variable speed pump or adding a heater can easily be done during your pool remodel. By adding automation to your equipment, you can start automatic cleaning, adjust the temperature, filtration or lighting all with the touch of a button. And with the recent industry-wide chlorine shortage, there is no better time to install a salt system than now!

Enhance the lighting

Suppose the lights in your pool or spa have stopped working. In that case, this is undoubtedly something you should include in your pool remodel, especially if you like to spend your evenings relaxing or socializing in the garden.

We recommend LED lights as they give a bright, deep, and vibrant illumination. LED pool lights are energy-efficient, low maintenance and have a much longer lifespan than incandescent pool lights do. You can also opt for a LED color light which allows you to choose from nine vibrant colors or five dramatic light shows that are bound to impress your guests.

Update the decking

Updating your pool decking can make a striking difference aesthetically. Brick or travertine pavers give a beautiful, upgraded appearance and can easily be added during a pool remodel. For a more economical option, resurfacing an existing acrylic deck may be the best way to hide cracks and blemishes while giving your pool deck a fresh new look or color on a budget. Regardless of which direction you choose to go in for your pool deck, you could use this pool remodel as an opportunity to match your pool’s patio to the exterior design of your house, creating a more in-sync, cohesive look.
